Support Our Troops!

Whether or not you agree with the war is irrelevant, for these brave men and women of your Armed Forces need to know you care. Below are a number of charitable websites, one of which may suit your particular abilities. Ask not what they are doing for you, but what you can do for them.

Burma Star Association

This title of this site goes without saying. The object of the Association is the relief of need or distress among Burma Star holders or their widows/widowers or dependants. The estimated average age of a Burma Star holder is 85 years. Immediate financial help can be given in cases of urgent need. In 2007 the Association helped over 398 individuals in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the Commonwealth, Burma and the USA, in the form of grants, spending almost £300,000. Assistance takes many forms but includes help with debts, household repairs, wheelchairs, stairlifts, respite care and nursing home top-up fees. We are always very grateful for any donations, legacies, bequests or gifts of shares that will enable us to continue with our ongoing charitable work.

The Royal British Legion

It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes.

We help serving and ex-Service personnel and their families. Not just those who fought in the two World Wars, but also those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting today.

The Royal British Legion is a UK charity that provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants.

The Legion was founded in 1921 as a voice for the ex-Service community and over 380,000 members continue to ensure that this voice does not go unheard. Although the needs of ex-Service people have changed over the years, we are still there to safeguard their welfare, interests and memory.

We are probably best-known for our role as the nation's custodian of Remembrance and for the Poppy Appeal which we organise annually.

Gurkhas Pension Fund

Gurkha, also spelled as Gorkha or Ghurka, are people from Nepal and northern India who take their name from the 8th century Hindu warrior-saint Guru Gorakhnath. Gurkhas are best known for their history of bravery and strength in battle which was displayed in the Indian Army's Gurkha regiments throught Burma.
The 4/4 Gurkha Regiment fought alongside the 2nd Battalion The Royal Berkshire Regiment with distinction. Ask any veteran about the Gurkha's and he will sing their praise. They need to know you still care!

Chris Harrison wrote, "I have another group of Gurkhas next month to give a small pension to, but this year have only half the usual amount, sorry to say. But at least I can give them enough for some warm clothes, a blanket etc this time, before winter sets in."

SOS

We support all the Services, and all ranks within these. We also work very closely with the medical teams in Afghanistan and the UK to provide much needed support for the injured. Our wonderful teams, now spread across the UK, all share the same passion and commitment, and will do whatever they can to help our brave Servicemen and women and their families.

Support Our Soldiers was formed in March 2003 to encourage and provide support for members of the British Armed Forces serving overseas and their families at home. Since that time, thanks to the overwhelming kindness and generosity of the British public, over 70,000 morale boosting care parcels have been sent out to those on the frontline, and countless families helped through the very difficult time with their loved ones away on tour.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity

We are The Soldiers’ Charity. We give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families.
We help individuals directly; getting the money to them quickly for things as diverse as care home fees, debt relief, retraining, furniture, wheelchairs and home adaptations. If a soldier has served for even a short time then we are there for them and their dependants for life.

As a result of Current Operations in Afghanistan it is anticipated that requests for assistance will increase significantly in the coming years. We have seen a 30% year on year rise in calls on our help and this is set to continue.

We have been here for the past 66 years and will be here for as long as we are needed.
For Soldiers. For Life.

Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007. Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help.
The message is simple: H4H does not seek to criticise or be political, we simply want to help and to do so by asking everyone to do their bit to raise money. Once that money is raised, we go to the experts in the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force for guidance as to how best to spend it. It is our intention to spend all we raise on the practical, direct support of those wounded in the service of our country since 9/11. When we began, we wanted to ensure that we would be as efficient as possible so our policy is money in and money out. We are not trying to build large reserves, we want your money to be used and quickly. We have either spent or allocated £54m to date on facilities and services. We can spend all we get, so don't stop! We are working hard to raise more money and we are passionate about what we are doing. It is needed, it is appreciated and we are making a real difference to the lives of some extraordinary young men and women. Please join us in helping our Heroes.
