William Goddard,
            a veteran of WWI & WWII was reported by the Reading Standard newspaper
            in WWI as having been wounded, and reads....

GODDARD. Pte. William,
            1st Batt., 5, Longbarn Cottages, Basingstoke-road, Reading. He was buried by a shell explosion and lay helpless for three days
            before his comrades discovered him and took him to hospital. He had
            a narrow escape of being buried alive, for it was only the movement
        of a dying comrade that released him from a suffocating position.  | 
      
His brother Alec
          Goddard 9053 a Pte. with the 2nd Battalion died in France along with
          Reuben Goddard.  |

Sidney Burgess
            enlisted in October 1939, transferred to the Reconnaissance Corps
            in May 1941. The 5th Royal Berkshires were in Suffolk for a period
            of time before being stationed on the north East coast - where he
            met my mother, whom he eventually married in November 1941. Sidney Burgess's last
            active service was in Palestine in 1945-46.

Mjr. Geoffrey Vardon
            Martin was commissioned in May 1940. Mjr. Martin was wounded in Normandy,
            resulting in the loss of his leg and was awarded the Military
            Cross in April 1945. He was also a much loved schoolmaster
            and sadly passed away in 1976.
